Mr. Tambourine Man

Aqui está, Mr. Tambourine Man, minha versão da Danse Macabre (Dança da Morte), um tema popular na Idade Média... A Danse Macabre mostra a "Dona" Morte chamando todo o tipo de gente - o papa, o rei, o rico e o pobre - para dançarem junto em direção ao túmulo. A mensagem é que "a vida é curta e a morte vem para todos"... É né? Fazer o quê? Sinistro, mas verdadeiro...

Bom, de qualquer forma, o título da ilustração já entrega que a música do Bob Dylan serviu de inspiração aqui... Eu adoro a letra de Mr. Tambourine Man e apesar de conhecer as histórias de como a canção é, na verdade, sobre drogas ou sobre o cantor invocando sua musa (ou, pelo menos no caso da versão dos The Byrds, Deus...!) eu semprei imaginei que o "Homem do Tamborim" era a Morte. Não sei porquê...

So here it is, Mr. Tambourine Man, my take on the Danse Macabre (Dance of Death), a popular theme in the Middle Ages... The Danse Macabre is about Death summoning all kinds of people - pope, king, peasant - to dance along to the grave. The idea was "life is short and Death unites us all"... Spooky, but true...

Anyway, as the title of the illustration suggests, Bob Dylan's song - Mr. Tambourine Man - was the main inspiration here... I love the lyrics and while I'm aware of the speculation that the song is about drugs or a call to the singer's muse (or even God, at least in The Byrds version case...!) but I always thought that the Tambourine Man was Death when I heard the song for the first time. I don't know why...
